Food, Glorious Food!

Noodles...rice... every variety of meat... sweet cakes with surprise fillings, from the most mundane to the most unique (green bean, eggs, chicken, you name it!)

The food here has been an adventure of its own. I'm excited to share it all with you!

In Bien Hoa, we decided to take a night off Vietnamese food and ate Thai for a night. This green curry was outstanding!

We took a street food tour during our first night in Saigon (before we'd moved, when we were still living in Bien Hoa.) Here we are with our fellow food tour guests, eating barbecued conch, snails and prawns. The meat was served with a side of piping hot lemongrass broth.

In late September, Laurel and I took our first trip to Hanoi, the country's capital. Our first meal in Hanoi was at Nowolla Chicken, a fried chicken restaurant that we loved but over-ordered to an absurd degree.

I ordered rose tteokbokki at Nwolla. Tteokbokki is my favorite Korean rice cake dish, with cream added to the sauce. So rich and so delicious.

While in Hanoi, we visited Bún chả Hàng Quat, a local hotspot hidden away in a small alley in the Old Quarter. We heard about Bún chả Hàng Quat from the Netflix food Show Railway Việt Nam. It was very good!

I wasn't feeling 100% the night we ate here so I ordered the chicken soup. That's right, a whole chicken, including feet and liver, was presented before me!

Back home in Saigon, we'd seen a large, brightly lit restaurant in our neighborhood of Thao Dien many times and decided to try it in mud-August. This ban xeo was good but not half as good as the one from the food tour--- too much pork belly for my taste.
